Shirati KMT Hospital
Shirati, Tanzania
Msaada Architects have a long history of serving Shirati KMT (Kanisa Mennonite Tanzania) Hospital. Having completed the nursing school and a variety of renovations in the 1980’s, it was wonderful to return to Shirati for the completion of a Master Plan for this growing institution.
Built in the 1930’s, Shirati KMT Hospital is facing the challenges of patient growth, rapidly evolving medical technology and aging facilities. An on-site visit was necessary to assess the buildings, interview staff and assist in determining a way forward. After two days of reconnaissance, Msaada led the staff of the hospital through a planning exercise to prioritize needs. After ranking their priorities, it was a blessing to discover that the hospital intuitively knew their needs and agreed on the implementation schedule.
With the number need being a new Emergency Department and Palliative Care Center, Msaada designed the new building and provided renderings for fund-raising. As the good people of Shirati continue to improve their facilities, Msaada will continue to serve Shirati Hospital.
